I’m back!

It was a great experience and a lot of fun. Unfortunately the weather was not on my side. The rainy season is still there with a lot of heavy rain, 30-35° Celsius and around 80-90% humidity. Think my footage will not be as I expect but that was not the main reason to make this trip.

In this time we have two earthquakes (magnitude 6.5 and 7), two Tsunami warnings and Jakarta was 50-100cm under water because of the heavy rain. I didn’t see or feel anything about that, saw it only on CNN and national TV.

On the fly back to Germany I feel that the flu catch me and I spend the last 2 days in bed but now it’s a little better.

Looks like you still got some good stuff out of it. After all, dark skies provide some nice contrast to foreground elements. Nice extreme building shot you have there with the clouds!

We just can't leave the house without the rain gear!

Yes, some parts was a real little adventure but the best thing was the food!
I love Asian food!!! Grilled Red Snapper with a sweet and (very) spicy peanut sauce, yummy yummy yummy….

Do you have any issues with too much digital noise on your dark images? Sometimes when I shoot a time lapse at a darkish situation I get too much noise that completely ruins the shot. What gamma settings did you have that shot? I believe B.Press is the least noisiest one. You have any other tips for me to reduce noise?

Hey Kerry, I’m not worry about it, it’s only pity!

I have the same problems as you with the noise BUT in my opinion it’s an overrated problem and WE are too, much too critical about this. We sit normally 40-100cm in front of our Monitor and try to survey. A normal viewer sit 300cm and more away. Try to view your Material from this distance. Did you still see it? – ok, kill the shot! If not, don’t think about the noise.

There is still noise in the cloud shot but I reduce that a little with the frame blending option in AE and the speed in a time lapse shot do the rest. I personally like a little noise, it’s not so ultra clean as video normally is.

Hey.... and don't we spend countless hours planning on how to get the texture of film in our video ... sometimes the "smoke and mirrors" that is needed is only a click away.

Rudi, I agree... a touch of grain (however you get there) adds a more natural "feel" to some clips.

and I too need to sit a bit farther back from the screen .... but I don't know if my eyes will recover after all these years
